Green time: recycled tuna fish cans from Bolivia

This is my first blog about producers of recycled products in developing countries. During my work in Africa, Asia and Latin America I always meet inspiring people working with waste materials creating new fascinating products. With this blog I want to highlight the work of these creative people, tell something about their inspiration and promote recycled design products from developing countries.

The first producer I want to tell you about is Wara Cardozo, a woman of 30 years old from Bolivia, a creative teacher concerned about the environment and the abundance of waste, always looking for creative solutions to work with waste materials.

In November 2010 I executed a course in Santa Cruz in Bolivia about recycling, recycled products, design and marketing and Wara was one of the participants. She makes lovely clockworks from used tuna fish cans. The clocks have different designs like an orange or are covered with musical notes.

Wara was looking for waste materials to convert them into products and choose used tuna fish cans because of the frequent use by the Bolivian population and because she saw the aesthetic beauty in the round shape of the cans.

Now she is setting up her own enterprise and she called her newly born enterprise “GREEN TIME”. With the slogan we still have time she shows her motivation for a sustainable future. The picture shows Wara in front of one of her artistic creations, using more than 3000 beer bottle caps.

I think the products of Wara are a perfect example of the creation of a beautiful product form waste material and I wish her a lot of success with her enterprise. For more information about GREEN TIME look at http://www.greentimebolivia.blogspot.com
